Young Allred Members Clean-up School Campus!
Imagine this… what if everyone in San Diego County picked up one piece of litter each day?  How might our community change? How about the world? This is a concept staff at the Allred Branch in Carmel Valley are trying to ingrain in the young club members, kindergarten through 3rd grade, as they took to the local school campus to clean up litter last Wednesday.

Youth’s Thank You Cards Reach Afghanistan
In December, the Polster Branch took part in "12 Days of Giving" where members and staff participated in many activities that gave back to the community and armed forces. One of the activities the youth participated in was to write a thank you letter to active military members. The staff at Polster mailed out the completed letters all the way to this unit in Afghanistan. The unit read the kid’s letters and took a group picture together and sent it back to the kids to thank them for keeping them in mind. Great work Polster members!

We Need Your Help. You Can Make a Difference.
The Issue - Due to the high level of interest in our Aquatics Programs, pool usage, and normal wear-and-tear, we have reached the useful lifetime on some key components and must replace them. These requisite components have kept the water and pool conditions in high quality over the past seven years, including the heaters. The replacement costs on the heaters alone are estimated to be in excess of $120,000.

Attention parents! Upcoming Survey Opt-Out Option
Our Club is taking part in an annual Survey that will be used to track the wellbeing of members in Boys & Girls Clubs nationally. The survey asks how members feel about the activities and time they spend at the Club, education plans, and involvement in community service and work.

Additionally, the survey asks about the attitudes and health behaviors of Club members, including questions about nutrition and physical activity. Teen members aged 13 and older are asked additional questions around alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, fighting, arrests, and whether teens are sexually active. If you'd like to opt your child out of this survey please fill out this form.

Hana likes to play chess, swim and practice her gymnastics routines. However, she loves to hang out with her good friends every day at the Boys & Girls Club Allred Branch.

MEET WHO'S LEADING OUR FUTURE
staff of month_zach.jpg
Zachary Abramson, Polster Branch Program Leader
Zach was hired as a Summer Adventure Camp staff but has evolved into a staple with the After School Program as a Program Leader. Zach has worked at almost all locations of the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Dieguito working within our Arts and Crafts Department, and has created magnificent works of art that are displayed throughout the Polster Branch. While the Polster and Del Mar Branches have been going through shortages in staff, Zach has been very flexible and able to work at any location with ease. This is evident by the constant positive feedback from kids, parents and staff about Zach’s participation, during this transition phase. “I like working with the kids and I look forward to doing the drawing camps.” –Zachary Abramson

CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito
Are you the one?

There is strong belief by many in California and around the country that there should be equal opportunity for all children providing them a chance to have better opportunities than their parents. However, in reality this belief is far from what is actually happening. In California most families lack the means and resources to provide their children with the basic building blocks needed for a productive life in the 21st century. Together, we have to acknowledge these disparities and take the bold steps needed in order to start making a change.
