Bringing A Bird Back to Health

Two of our Del Mar kids found a hurt baby bird on the ground while they were walking home from the club. They brought him back to the clubhouse and kept him warm and safe in a plastic bin with paper towels and leaves. The kids and staff researched how to take care of a baby bird and discovered that the grubs from our garden were the perfect food!

Integrating Healthy Lifestyles into After School Program
The Center for a Healthy Lifestyle in Solana Beach sits right behind the Harper Branch clubhouse. The garden is plentiful and the kitchen is always cooking up something healthy and delicious. This is due to our amazing CHL team consisting of our gardener, our chefs, our volunteers and now more often, our after school kids.

Giving Back to the Community During the Recent Fires
The recent fire situations in our area gave new meaning to "School's out, Clubs are in!" Because parents need options when schools are not in session and their kids need care, we kept our two largest Branches open all day, the Solana Beach Harper Branch and the Carmel Valley Polster Branch, while schools we're closed due to the fires, at NO additional fee.

Griset Charity Golf Classic Recap
The Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito's Charity Golf Tournament was played on Monday, May 19th, 2014. This tournament, hosted at The Crossings in Carlsbad, is an important fundraiser for the Griset Branch in Encinitas to raise money for scholarships.  This event has raised over $50,000 to benefit scholarships over the past four years.  We would like to thank all our sponsors,  players and volunteers for making this another successful event!

Renaming of the Allred Branch
The Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito recently unveiled a new look and a new name for its Douglas Allred Branch in Carmel Valley. In honor of the late Ann Allred and her legacy to the nonprofit organization, the branch is now called the Ann & Douglas Allred Branch.

Million Dollar Round Table Foundation
The MDRT Foundation is the charitable arm of the Million Dollar Round Table, the premier association of Financial Professionals. The MDRT Foundation helps MDRT members maximize their philanthropic efforts in their own communities and worldwide. Thanks to long time supporter and Board Member Marty Peters, the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito is a proud recipient of a $1,000 grant from the MDRT Foundation.

Teaming Up With Dixieline

On May 17th, Dixieline in Solana Beach and La Colonia joined together for a fundraiser to benefit the La Colonia Branch.  Dixieline provided hotdogs, chips, cookies and drinks to be sold for $1.  All the proceeds of the sale went to La Colonia. We had both staff and teens volunteer at the event.  It was great to see the outpouring of support from the members of the Solana Beach community. In all, we were able to raise over $600 for La Colonia.  We had a great time and it was very rewarding to see everyone so involved and having a good time. Thanks to Dixieline for their continued support of the BGC and to the staff and volunteers for making this happen.
Thank You, Del Mar Rotarians
Due to a generous donation from the Del Mar Rotary Club, the Del Mar Branch was able to get a bit of a face lift! Over Spring Break we were fortunate enough to get all new railings on our front ramp and back patio. We also got a new canopy to cover our back porch because the old one blew off during one of our few storms this year. The kids and staff are so happy to be able to hang out safely around our new railings! We are so grateful to the Del Mar Rotary Club and their continued support of the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Dieguito.

Alyssa Rodmel, 4th grade - Harper Branch
Charismatic, kind, sensitive, outgoing, respectful, athletic, cheerful and this list goes on and on. These are just a few words to explain Alyssa. Alyssa is a very bright individual. She loves all sports but is a master at the game of softball. Alyssa is an outstanding in school and her grades reflect from it, having nothing less than B plus on every report card. Although she’s the youngest of two she never shy’s away from a challenge from  her older brother. Alyssa always gives respect to others but, expects the same in return. She also loves spending her spare time with family and friends. She is a great positive leader at the Harper Branch in Solana Beach.
