During Garden Club on Tuesday, Del Mar members raided the garden for edible plants to make salads to eat for snack time. Over 15 kids participated and each one had a different array of plants on their plates, from lettuce and broccoli to edible flowers!

National Boys & Girls Club Week Wrap Up
National Boys & Girls Club Week was a great success this year! All seven of our branches participated in a different theme each day of the week.

Daisy Auguliar, BGC San Dieguito's 2013 Youth of the Year
This past month Daisy Aguilar, our 2013 Youth of the Year, competed against nine other Y.O.Y. winners from other Boys & Girls Clubs Organizations throughout San Diego County.
*NEW* Mentoring Program
The Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito and the team at Crush Italian Restaurant have partnered together to create a mentoring program for teens which combines shadowing and one-on-one mentoring techniques to teach teens skills in the restaurant industry.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito BIG EI8HT Middle School Sports Conference sponsors 10 sports, one being: track & field. Teams compete with local middle schools in and outside the district. The Polster Branch, in collaboration with BGC San Carlsbad, hosted a track meet this past month that had over 370 kids from 7 different middle schools competing. *NEW* iTrain Basketball Skills Clinic
This clinic will focus on skill development in the areas of agility/vertical and leap/footwork training and constant enforcement of the fundamentals of basketball. SDSU basketball alum DJ Gay and 4 year basketball starter at UC San Diego, Jordan Lawley, will be leading the clinics with special guest appearances form the current SDSU basketball players.
Bring-it-on-athon - RSD Swimming Fundraiser
The Bring-it-on-athon is RSD’s ONLY Annual fundraiser in which ALL RSD swimmers have one-hour (Grunions swim 30 minutes) to swim as many laps as possible with each swimmer’s goal to raise at least $150. Each swimmer can either collect flat donations, or can pursue pledges for each lap they swim.
Creating Their Own Ringtones
The Ocean Knoll Outreach Center is very fortunate to have an artist volunteering his time to meet with their club members on a weekly basis. Patrick, the artist volunteering, is equipping club members with valuable tools to better understand music. He is allowing club members to explore the program, Garage Band, in order to create their own melodies, which in turn will become ringtones!
YAA Rock Band, Chrome Jets, Play Concert at Allred
It was a beautiful March day, perfect for an afterschool rock concert. The young Allred members rocked out along to the beat of a Youth Arts Academy Rock Band, in the hopes that maybe one day they too can be in their very own band!

Open House Luncheon at the *NEW* Center For A Healthy Lifestyle in Encinitas
The Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito held a media and VIP viewing of the NEW Center for a Healthy Lifestyle (CHL) Kitchen & Garden Project at the Encinitas Griset Branch. Over 60 people came to see the progress of the project and learn about ways they can help.

Meet Abby Dumrauf | Age 11 Del Mar Branch
Abby is an all-around sweet and genuine person who is always looking out for her younger sister and the other kids at the club. She will routinely sit with the kindergartners and first graders and patiently read chapter books to them. The staff can always count on Abby to be a leader. She leads the other kids on the right path not by telling them what to do, but by behaving in such a kind way that the other kids love and respect her.

On an average day during the school year, young people spend about 13% in school, 40% at home including sleep and 47% somewhere else. At Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito, we set out to serve the young people specifically targeted on that 47% metric and our goal is to serve that population with greater impact.
